    2. Kompanie Reserve-Grenadier-Bataillon 17. The Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 17 was mobilized on 26 Aug 1939 in Braunschweig in the defense area XI. The batallion was under the command of the 191st Division and was the replacement for the 31st Infantry Division. In May of 1941 the batallion released its 3rd Company which was used to man the 1st Batallion of the 744th Infantry Regiment. On 1 Oct 1942 the Batallion was divided into "Infanterie-Ersatz Bataillon 17" and "Reserve-Infanterie-Bataillon 17". As of that date the "Ersatz-Bataillon was under the command of the 471st Division. The "Reserve-Bataillon" was under the 191st Reserve Division. Both of these units were renamed on 7 Nov 1942 to "Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 17" and "Reserve-Grenadier-Bataillon 17". in 1943 the Reserve-Grenadier-Bataillon 17 was transferred to Boulogne in northern France. The unit was dissolved on 1 Feb 1944.
